Lane Cove
The suburb of Lane Cove lies on a peninsula on Sydney’s North Shore, New South Wales, at the mouth of the Lane Cove River. It is located approximately 10 kilometres North-West of the Sydney CBD and falls under the administration of the Municipality of Lane Cove. The suburbs of Lane Cove North, Lane Cove West, Artarmon, Linley Point and Longueville are nearby. There is some debate about the origin of the name, but most historians believe it was named after a cartographer called Lieutenant Michael Lane. Lane Cove is a predominately residential area with a shopping centre and pedestrian mall near Burns Bay Road, but it also features some light industrial and commercial areas. Popular features are the Aquatic Centre and Longueville Hotel. A large portion of the area has been set aside for recreation, such as Burns Bay Park and Tambourine Bay Park. The nearby Lane Cove National Park has been popular with families since the 1920s and features picnic areas and a weir.
